How Cardi B Is Building Her Best Life After Breakup
Cardi B likes dollars, she likes diamonds, she likes stunting, she likes shining.
And shining is exactly what the “I Like It” rapper plans to keep on doing as she enters her 32nd year on Oct. 11.
Just look at her outfits for Paris Fashion Week. Whether Cardi was wearing those Balenciagas (you know, the ones that look like socks) or another item, she turned heads at the September shows—at one point even channeling the style of her "Puntería" collaborator Shakira.
“Cardi!!! Whaaat?” the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer wrote on Instagram Sept. 27 before praising the newly single star. “Soltera you look even better!!! Love u!!!!”
While Cardi is determined to live her best life, the past few months haven't been easy. Back in August, she filed for divorce from Offset after nearly seven years of marriage. Despite speculation, their split was "not based on one particular incident,” her rep explained, noting “it has been a long time coming.”
And amid their breakup, Cardi was entering another new chapter: Mom of three, announcing her pregnancy in early August.
“With every ending comes a new beginning!” the Grammy winner—who also shares daughter Kulture, 6, and son Wave, 3, with Offset—wrote in an Aug. 1 Instagram message to her little one. “I am so grateful to have shared this season with you, you have brought me more love, more life and most of all renewed my power! Reminded me that I can have it all! You’ve reminded me that I never have to choose between life, love, and my passion!”
And she eagerly anticipated the arrival of her bundle of joy.
“I love you so much and can not wait for you to witness what you helped me accomplish, what you pushed me to do!” she added. “It’s so much easier taking life’s twists, turns and test laying down, but you, your brother and your sister have shown me why it’s worth it to push through!”
Her youngest daughter—whose name has yet to be revealed—entered the world on Sept. 7, with Cardi calling her “the prettiest lil thing” in a birth announcement days later. Despite their split, she and Offset came together for the big day—with photos showing him, Kulture and Wave at the hospital.
While Cardi kept much of her pregnancy private, she pointed out she didn’t even find out she was expecting until later in her journey.
As she recounted in a Sept. 28 Instagram Live, she woke up in March with the taste of copper in her mouth—which she said only happens when she’s pregnant. While the “Bodak Yellow” rapper assumed she was about six or seven weeks along, she learned from her doctor that she was actually closer to 17 or 18 weeks. This shocked Cardi considering she had a negative pregnancy test in January ahead of her surgery for fibrosis and to get her butt injections removed.
So when she saw the sonogram, she added, she got “real emotional right away.”
“When I found out it was a girl, I started crying even more because y’all know that I love raising girls,” Cardi continued on her Instagram Live. “Something that I wasn’t really thinking much about because I was so busy and so much was going on in my life around that time, it stuck to my head for a very, very long time, and I just felt like God was telling me, ‘This is your baby. I sent this baby to you.’”
Alas, there was still drama. In September, Offset commented on Cardi's Instagram Live, “u f--ked with a baby on the inside," to which she seemingly responded by tweeting, “AND DID!!!!!!” (E! News reached out to both parties at the time for comment but did not hear back).
Though the "Money" artist and the Migos member have broken up and gotten back together several times over the years—including in 2018 after he was at the center of a cheating scandal and then again in 2020 when she filed for divorce before dismissing the proceedings—she’s expressed how she's calling it quits for good.
“Thank you for my kids though—all three of them,” Cardi said in another Instagram Live last month. “I don’t regret none of them, but I regret you.”
Now, Cardi is looking towards the future, which she’s hinted includes finally releasing her second album following 2018’s Invasion of Privacy.
“I did shot my album cover while I was pregnant,” she teased in the Sept. 28 Instagram Live, “and I really do like these pictures but I wanna take a little more.”
