What teams are in Super Bowl 58? What to know about Chiefs-49ers matchup
The biggest event in sports – and television – has arrived.
Super Bowl 58 from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will kick off just past 6:30 p.m. ET.
The Kansas City Chiefs are back in the NFL's biggest game, trying to defend their title after beating the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 57. During the past 10 Super Bowls, the AFC has won six times. The Chiefs and New England Patriots account for five of those six AFC victories, with the lone exception being Super Bowl 50 when the Denver Broncos smothered the Carolina Patriots.
The San Francisco 49ers have won the second-most Super Bowls all-time with five. The 49ers, who are tied with the Cowboys, trail only the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots, winners of six Super Bowl championships. This is the 49ers' eighth Super Bowl, which ties them with the Steelers, Cowboys and Denver Broncos for second-most in league history.

Chiefs history
Kansas City will be appearing in its fourth Super Bowl in the past five seasons. Before 2019, the Chiefs hadn't won a Super Bowl in 50 years and are looking to become the first team to win back-to-back titles since the New England Patriots accomplished the feat almost 20 years ago.
Behind two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs have become a mainstay in the postseason, winning 14 of the 17 games that Mahomes has started, including a victory over the 49ers in Super Bowl 54.

49ers history
San Francisco is making its eighth appearance in the Super Bowl and first since 2020 in Super Bowl 54 when they blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead to the Chiefs and lost 31-20. The 49ers also lost to the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl 47, falling short 34-31 after coming back from a 22-point second-half deficit.
The 49ers have not held the Lombardi Trophy since 1995 when Steve Young's Super Bowl record six touchdowns led the team to a 49-26 rout over the San Diego Chargers.
The dynasty began in the 1980s under head coach Bill Walsh and quarterback Joe Montana. Montana went 4-0 in Super Bowls and was named Super Bowl MVP three times (Super Bowl 16, 19, 24).
