A woman was killed Friday morning in Atlanta when she drove into a construction vehicle, authorities said.

The crash happened around 4:48 a.m. on Interstate 20 westbound, near Moreland Avenue southeast.

Someone called officers about the crash and when police arrived, they found there had been a crash involving a white sedan and a utility truck.

No one was in the utility truck but it was parked on the right shoulder lane while employees worked on nearby light fixtures, the Atlanta Police Department said in a news release.

A woman driving a white sedan merged from the right lane and veered towards the shoulder, where her car hit the empty construction vehicle, police said. The woman’s car was projected across the interstate and hit a wall on the left side of the interstate before finally stopping.

Medics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman dead. No one else was injured.

The police department’s Accident Investigations Unit responded to the scene to investigate and according to authorities, the investigation is ongoing.

“Please keep in mind the above information is preliminary in nature and can change as the investigation progresses and new information comes to light,” police said in a statement.
