Missouri teen arrested after fight near high school left another teen injured, police say
A 15-year-old girl was arrested after a fight caused a severe head injury for another teenage girl near Hazelwood East High School in St. Louis County, Missouri, police said.
In a statement, the St. Louis County Police Department said detectives from the North County Precinct are investigating the assault which left one teen girl in critical condition and another teen girl detained on assault charges by the St. Louis County Family Court.
The identities of both the suspect and victim will not be released since they are minors.
Officials said they received a call about a fight in progress near the high school around 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The suspect was arrested the following day on Saturday, police said.
"Responding officers located a juvenile female suffering a severe head injury. The victim was transported to an area hospital where she remains in critical condition," police said.
Several local outlets reported videos of the violent fight went viral and were shared by thousands of people online.
Police said an investigation is ongoing and more information will be released as it becomes available.

In a statement on Facebook, the Hazelwood School District said it's "a tragedy anytime children are hurt."
"Bullying and fighting in the community is an issue for which we all need to take ownership and work towards a resolution for the sake of our children. The Hazelwood School District offers our sincerest condolences to everyone involved, and will offer additional emotional support from our support and crisis team to those in need," the statement said.
In a message on Facebook, Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe described the incident as "insanity."
"This complete disregard for human life is unacceptable," Kehoe said. "We are praying for the victim’s recovery."
