A man and three children were found dead in a car at a Georgia park, police say.

According to a news release from Gwinnett County Police posted on X, officers believe they are investigating a possible murder-suicide after the bodies of a man and three children, two girls and a boy, were discovered. The children appeared to range from elementary to middle school-aged, the release said.

Sgt. Michele Pihera with the police department told USA TODAY that the four individuals had gunshot wounds but said the medical examiner's office would have to be the ones to confirm that the wounds were the cause of death.

She added that police believe the homicides occurred inside the vehicle and that the gun that was used to shoot them was found at the scene of the crime.

Currently, it is not known how the man was related to the three children, but Pihera said police do not believe he was the children's biological father. But, he does have a connection to the children, however police can not confirm the information at this moment.
